U-2048 is a minor recurring character in Cells at Work! and a main character in Cells at Work! WHITE.
Appearance[]
He has slanted dark grey eyes and short, straight parted hair bluntly undercut in the back, and like the other neutrophils he has extremely pale skin. He wears the neutrophil uniform.
Personality[]
Like his fellow White Blood Cell comrades, U-2048 is typically a calm and reserved cell until he detects a foreign body in the host. His alternate personality then triggers, becoming a malicious individual that engages targets in combat on sight until eliminated. He is also portrayed as a very determined cell who does not give up, opting to try again and again until he succeeds. Despite this, he is also extremely stubborn and a perfectionist, causing his resilience to at times become detrimental and self-destructive. He likes to be the "cool guy" of the team.
History[]
As pictured in a photo distributed by Dendritic Cell as cytokine, 2048 was overweight as a myelocyte and appeared to be extremely insecure about his size. In Cells at Work! WHITE, this is a further explored aspect of his character, with a full chapter dedicated to exploring the lasting effects of such experiences. He is extremely strict with his exercise regime, and also often cuts out sweets from his diet. He regularly reads weight loss magazines, and has attempted a fasting diet that ultimately alerts his peers to the underlying problem of unresolved trauma from childhood regarding his weight.
Background[]
He is a Neutrophil working under the Neutrophil Division, and a close friend of U-1146, along with U-2001, U-2626 and U-4989. As a neutrophil, his purpose is to destroy bacteria invading the body.
Abilities[]
Like all neutrophils, he possesses abilities that enable him to quickly terminate threats.
- Overall Abilities: As one of the most abundant white blood cells, he can terminate any kind of harmful cells to the body from germs to cancer cells. He is incredibly agile and strong as he is able to slice common bacterium in half with one blow.
- Phagocytosis: White blood cells can analyze an unknown foreign cell by eating them which will help them identify its species, or consume them as food.
- Knife Proficiency: He is an efficient knife-fighter just like all neutrophils. Along with his agility to aid him, he can swiftly terminate a group of intruders alone. He is also able to block up to multiple attacks from aggressive bacterium continuously. Apart from close-range combat, he is able to throw his knives with accurate aim if an enemy is far beyond reach.
- Receptor: All neutrophils have a receptor that acts like a radar which alerts them whenever a threat is near.
- L-Selectin: A feature in their uniforms that let them adhere to certain surfaces
- Wandering Cell: He is a cell that is not fixed in place and able to move freely around the blood vessel.
- Transmigrate: He is able to move freely inside a tissue and reach his destination much faster.
